Overhauling My Life

Alloy Client of the Month: Janice Smith from Platinum Fitness in Verona, New Jersey!

I am happy, vibrant, and 43 years young. Although I was in pretty good shape, my meals once consisted of carbs and fats – and few fruits or veggies. For as long as I can remember myself in my adult years, I have been a size 10. So, when I could no longer fit any of my designer clothes and was carrying 190 lbs on my 5’7″ frame, I decided to overhaul my diet… and my life.

Last year, I went through the very stressful process of purchasing my first home and watched the number on the scale skyrocket. If non-fitting clothes weren’t enough, the look of my new stomach was the last straw.

After finally closing on my home, I decided it was time to lose some weight. On my own, I started to do basic exercising, but never changed my  diet. After 6 months, I had only shed 7 pounds.

Frustrated, I knew I needed an expert to help me, so I signed up for personal training at Platinum Fitness and was introduced to Rawn Brown. Having a trainer helps me to be more disciplined. I am so grateful that I had someone to hold my hand through the process.

With the help of Rawn, I completely changed my diet, saying “bye bye” to sugar, carbs and fried foods. Swapping extra helpings of carbs for veggies and whole grains, banishing caloric beverages and halving my meat portions all helped me shed 25 additional pounds!

Then, I added regular cardio and strength-training workouts to my routine – including at least one Afterburn and two small group sessions a week. Within 5 months, I was down to 158 pounds and in the best shape of my life!”

A Long-Term Process

Alloy Client of the Month: Olivia Eplan from Alloy Personal Training for Women, in Suwanee, GA!

After a year of working out with very limited results, I was dealing with a severe lack of self-esteem and was in the mindset that “I just don’t have what it takes.” When I turned 30 and got engaged, I decided to do something more. I contacted Alloy for Women and set up my first appointment… which I backed out twice before finally mustering the courage to walk through the door.

It has proven to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I love having set workout appointments at 6 a.m., 3 times a week. Previously, I was the kind of person who would go home after work with the intention of going to the gym… but never made it. So, getting my workouts done first thing in the morning has been a huge accomplishment (and a relief when I get home after work!). If I have to miss a session, I immediately schedule a makeup – I don’t give myself the opportunity to not make it up.

For me, nutrition has always been a struggle, but since coming to Alloy for Women it’s really clicked that improving on this aspect of my life would really unlock a whole new level of potential success. Portion control and seeing food as “fuel” rather than enjoyment has helped me see great results. I know it sounds simple, but I love food so this has been a real work in progress.

At each session, I realize I am stronger than the session before. I am always pushed just outside my comfort zone and constantly encouraged to become a better version of myself – and seeing the numbers on the scale going down at each weigh-in hasn’t hurt, either! While the coaches always tell me that I will be the last person to notice any results (it’s true, I think I’ve hit a “plateau” every-other week), I am doing things I never thought I could do and that is a really awesome feeling!

I am slowly realizing that there is no such thing as perfection – this is a long-term process, not a short-term fix. I whine, complain and curse a lot, but I wouldn’t want to do it anywhere but Alloy for Women!

Looking Forward to My Next Challenge

Alloy Client of the Month: Travis Kirchhefer from Gold’s Gym, Cheyenne!

I have been working with personal trainers for several years and had some great results. However, last winter, I started to feel sluggish and was putting on the wrong kind of weight. I really needed something to push me on my “off” days to get me into the gym and keep me active. One of my trainers suggested that I try the Alloy Team Training classes and join an upcoming fitness challenge. So, I signed up with a friend. We’ve been attending the classes since last November.

The team training classes were just what I needed to get my focus back. Since January, I have lost 22 lbs, almost 9 inches, and 10% of my body fat. I can’t believe the results I achieved. I look and feel better than I thought possible. I fit into a size of clothes that I didn’t think I could ever wear. More importantly, I learned to push myself in new ways. I am waking up earlier with more energy, getting more done personally and professionally, and looking forward to my next challenge!

Finding Fitness After Survival

Alloy Client of the Month: Bobby Willms from Worx Clubs Wenatchee Valley, Washington!

I was in a severe car accident, breaking my neck and my arm. I fractured my C1, C2 and C3 vertebrae; the doctor said a C1 fracture is almost always fatal and a C2 fracture almost always leads to paralysis.  God’s miracle and a Subaru saved my life, and I am truly grateful every day!

After surviving, I was determined to increase my health and fitness. I joined Worx Clubs of the Wenatchee Valley (Washington), and I know it gives me a much better quality of life.

When the Alloy program was just getting started, I was approached to try it out – so I did. It is the best thing that could have happened! Through Alloy, I have made great strides in my physical ability, which has transferred over to a marvelous state of well-being! The workouts have gotten me into the best shape of my life, and the social aspect gives me an increasingly positive outlook. The friends I have met in my training have been a real joy to me – I look forward with anticipation to meeting up with my gym buddies!

Every member of the Worx Alloy team is fabulous, knowledgeable, supportive and encouraging! Wanting to get the most out of my workout, I very much appreciate that they observe and tell me ways to improve my form. They always demonstrate and fully explain the exercises for the day and strive to keep us safe, giving modifications for any exercise.

Attendance at Worx is my personal obligation – and a priority in my life. I drive two hours round trip to be there, and with Alloy I am in the best shape that I can be, both physically and mentally!

Alloy App FAQ

The Alloy app launch has a lot of moving parts and has caused a little confusion; so, we wanted to answers some frequently asked questions and try to clear things up:

Q: Does the app work on Apple and Android devices?
A: The gym-side app only works on Apple devices. So, your coaches and admins will need an Apple iPhone or iPad. The web version of the app will work on any computer. The client-facing app (the version that your members will download) works on both Apple and Android devices.

Q: Is there a charge for the app?
A: Alloy has paid the development cost to build the Alloy app on the existing Trainerize platform. Trainerize will charge you for your usage, but there is no charge from Alloy.

Q: How do we see a demo of the app?
A: In the most recent emails they said they are ready. Contact Trainerize to speak with their dedicated sales team!

Q: How do we add our trainers and clients to the app?
A: Once you subscribe, you will be assigned an on-boarding specialist who will train your team on how to use the features of the app and assist you with uploading your clients, adding coaches and etc.

Q: Will others be able to see our client data?
A: No. Your portal is secure.

Q: Who do we contact if we have problems?
A: Trainerize has created a special team specific for the Alloy app. Your case will be given the highest priority by a member of this team.

Q: Will the weekly workout templates be available through the app?
A: No. The workout templates can still be found on the Alloy platform, just like always. But, you can download the program templates from Learner Nation to your IPad and go paper free! That’s what we’re doing at the mothership!

Client of the Month: Gaining a Healthier Fitness Lifestyle

Alloy Client of the Month: Eric Manthy of The Alaska Club East in Anchorage

As someone who has always had a very lean body and has struggled with my weight for many years, I’ve achieved a new, healthier fitness lifestyle with Alloy. Going on four months of training with my trainer at The Alaska Club, I’ve seen results I never thought were possible to achieve. With the guidance of Demetris & the Alloy® Training Systems, I have managed to gain 40 lbs, while keeping my body fat percentage down.

Through my fitness journey, my trainer has helped correct my form on exercises I thought I was doing correctly for years – but was actually risking hurting myself! I’ve learned new exercises and techniques using the Alloy® Training Systems that keep me motivated to help me reach my fitness goals.

In addition to having a much healthier body and appearance, I now have confidence that helps me not only in fitness, but in my day to day life.

Alloy Client of the Month: I Couldn’t Do This By Myself

I have to thank everyone at Alloy Personal Training Center, for “altering my birthday suit.” Thank you for greeting me and giving me the encouragement I needed when you honestly said “we are in business because of people like you.”

In the beginning, I thought I was just going to go into the gym and shed the extra pounds. Well, I tried for a few months but I was really playing the system. I didn’t commit until I got the news that my very close cousin had Type-2 Diabetes and was losing her sight. I was determined to prevent this from happening to me. I went to my doctor for my annual physical and I was declared to have pre-diabetes. The doctor gave me several instructions for a strict diet then sent me home to return in six months. What was I to do?

My turning point was when I realized that I could not do this by myself. Alloy helped me by building an individualized workable plan for my eating habits. Now that I had a new way of eating in place, I needed the proper and most effective form of exercises. I had an exercise plan designed for me and appointments made for me. Now it was up to me to follow and be accountable!

I realize exercise and proper eating habits go hand in hand. It is a lifestyle – not just something you can do here and there. Some days it’s hard for me to get to Alloy, but once I get through that door and swipe my card, my whole attitude changes instantly. I can honestly say that I have restored my energy level and my pre-diabetes condition is under control.

All of the coaches have contributed to my weight loss, for which I am amazingly grateful. The Alloy team keeps a watchful eye to make sure I’m on task, as well as doing the exercises correctly. I could not have done this without their kindness, interest and patience; I thank them all from the bottom of heart.

Rebecca Boothroyd – February Client of the Month

A year ago, I saw a friend’s post on Facebook – it was her “before and after” pictures and her story. It wasn’t that I related to her story as much as I wanted a story of my own.

This friend mentioned that she was now a trainer at Higher Power Fitness, and was teaching small group training at her church one day a week. So, I signed up for that one day a week session. Something in that session started a fire in me – I loved the way I felt and I loved how my body responded.

Within the first couple of months, I lost 30 pounds and 15+ inches. I did my very first 5k and wanted to do more.

Fast forward a few months, and I signed up for Higher Power Fitness, where she trains. I had never signed  up for a gym before, and I didn’t know what to expect. I instantly felt welcomed and loved going. I started with Foundations sessions and have worked my way up to doing Industrial Strength and Afterburn.

I never thought I would be the type of person who looked forward to working out. Yet here I am, loving it!

We are proud to recognize one of our extraordinary coaches who embodies what it means to be a rockstar Alloy coach. Meet Arleigh Thorp from Lava 24 Fitness:

Born in:
Walnut Creek, Ca
What does the Alloy culture mean to you?
Working out hard doesn’t always mean you’re working out smart. Building exercises from the foundation leads to the greatest gains. I love the diversity of the workouts, it keeps the member coming back for more and they’ve really helped me, personally, to increase my strengths goals. I think I’m functionally stronger now than when I was competing in collegiate athletics.
Favorite exercise?
Tie between kettle bell swings and chin ups
Least Favorite exercise?
Plank, specifically Around The World…so hard!
What do you do when you’re not whipping people into shape?
Playing with my dog, Bear. Recently mostly training for a triathlon
Who do you look up to & why?
Clients/members that have made fitness a daily part of their lives. Super peppy fitness people because I just don’t have that in me. I could never have been a cheerleader.
Guilty Indulgence?
Donuts
If you were a superhero who would it be & why?
No
Your secret to success?
Having the foresight to plan ahead. I’m not one of those people that loves to go to the gym just to go to the gym. I need a reason, a purpose, so I find things (and people) to keep me motivated.
